As one of the premier providers of plumbing, heating, cooling and electric services in the Windsor area, Lighten Up is often asked how to tell if it’s time for a new AC installation by Fort Collins customers.
You Need a New Air Conditioning Unit When…
In many cases, a malfunctioning device can be repaired by a qualified HVAC technician. However, there are a number of instances in which it’s preferable to invest in a new AC installation over repairing your old air conditioning unit:
- When the appliance fails to function properly, even after repairs. Sometimes a device is too damaged or worn out to be effective, for example if the electronics have burnt out or if multiple parts are broken.
- When the AC is reaching the end of its lifespan. An air conditioner usually lasts between 10 and 15 years. However, anything over 10 years old is likely not the most energy-efficient device, in which case it makes more sense to replace it with a more recent model that functions properly and consumes less energy.
- When the appliance’s indoor coil is broken. This will cause the AC to make a lot of noise when in “on” mode. In this case, Energy Star recommends replacement.
Things to Consider When Choosing a New AC
When it’s time to invest in a new AC, you’re best advised to assess your current needs, since your situation may have changed since you bought your previous appliance. For example, maybe you’ve started a family or gotten a pet, in which case it’s important that the home is cool during the day. Or perhaps you’ve been diagnosed with a lung condition such as asthma or bronchitis, and it’s imperative that the AC effectively cleans the air. Or maybe you simply want to replace wall-mounted appliances with a central air system. In any case, the good news is that the team at Lighten Up is here to help! Just give us a call—we can answer your questions, advise you based on your needs and of course, perform the installation for you.
