Tankless Water Heater Maintenance in Fort Collins

Once a Year Maintenance Suggested for Peak Efficiency

If you are a homeowner, then you are probably used to having appliances, electronics, or devices that need maintenance. A tankless water heater is no different, though their maintenance is not very demanding.

There are some very simple tasks you can perform to ensure your system’s efficiency, but never hesitate to contact a Lighten Up professional to get the job done for you! We know the ins and outs of these appliances and can make sure it’s done quickly and effectively.

Tankless Maintenance Frequency

Ask any manufacturer and they will tell you to have your tankless unit cleaned at least once a year and here at Lighten Up Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electric, we agree. The cleaning methods used are safe and non-toxic so you can do it as often as you like, but once a year is suggested timeframe.

Just a note: If you have more than one tankless system in your house, it would be wise to clean them on a rotating schedule so you don’t put both out of commission at the same time.

Types of Tankless Maintenance

  1. Cleaning the intake screens: We suggest doing this because paper, putty, and other materials can stuck in the wire mesh of the intake screens. Keep an eye on this inlet line because it’s often where the cold water input pipe is and you want to make sure it remains clean.
  2. Flushing the system: To do this, first unplug the power supply from the water heater and close the main valve handles. Locate the purge port on the hot and cold water valves, then slowly open the drain caps. From here, you should have instructions on attaching the lines and flushing the system for the particular model you have installed. These next steps are very important. Once the flushing is complete- with vinegar, no harsh chemicals – check that the purge port valves are closed, remove the lines, and re-install the drain caps. Turn the water heater back on and all should be back to normal!

A well maintained tankless water heater will last you at least 20 years. Make the most of your investment and have it maintained by a Lighten Up professional today. Give our office a call!
