Why You Should Install New Duct and Ventilation Systems

If you’re like most Americans, you spend nearly 90% of your time indoors. Staying indoors, however, doesn’t mean that you’re breathing cleaner and safer air. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] reports that indoor air can often be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. One reason: most modern homes, while energy efficient,  are sealed airtight.  Thus microscopic pollutants such as carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, fungus spores, mold, dust mites, pollen and other bacteria can become more concentrated indoors than outdoors. Products and devices we use every day, from house cleaning liquids to pesticides, building material to paints and lacquers, emit harmful pollutants and worsen indoor air quality.  Living with these pollutants poses serious health risks. Short-term risks include irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue. Long-term risks include cause or exacerbation of respiratory illnesses such as asthma, heart disease, and cancer. Further, mold and mildew that accumulates in the closets, kitchen, and bathrooms of a tightly sealed home and dampness on the walls and ceilings can damage the furniture, wooden structures, and other building assets. Therefore, in order to protect the health of your family and home, you should install a new duct and ventilation system.

Functions of  A Duct And Ventilation System

There are basically three types of ventilation systems: natural, mechanical and hybrid. Doors, windows, and trickle ventilators are examples of a natural ventilation system. It is a system wherein natural outdoor air is allowed to enter the home while stale poor quality air is forced to exit. A mechanical ventilation system is a device or a set of devices engineered to extract out unclean air and pump in and circulate clean air inside the home. Ductwork is usually used as a canal for air flow. Hybrid ventilation system, as the name suggests, is a mix of natural and mechanical systems. The functional elements of a  ducted mechanical ventilation system are as follows:

  • It delivers clean air into the home via a low-energy heat exchange unit usually located outside the home.
  • The air that enters the home is filtered before it passes through the ventilation unit and disseminates
  • Stale air from moist areas of the home such as from bathrooms and kitchens is regularly extracted and filtered through the ventilation cycle.
  • A mechanical ventilation system is an energy efficient solution to resolve all your ventilation needs without relying on noisy extractor fans or window vents.
  • The system is helpful in removing condensation and moisture from indoors and thus in limiting the growth of mold, mildew and other infestations.
  • Since fresh air is constantly filtered, it reduces indoor pollutant counts and helps reduce the symptoms of asthma, allergies and other respiratory problems.
  • The system calibrates to stabilize the room temperature providing warmer air in the winter and cooler air in the summer.
  • The ductwork associated with the ventilation system allows for air to be controlled, conditioned and tunneled into the house safely, consistently and evenly.
  • The rigid ductwork is usually made of highly durable and insular material such as aluminum, steel, and fiberglass. It prevents leakages of air helping energy efficiency. The ductwork arrests dust and other infestations from passing into the indoor air space.

Whether it’s a  house under construction or an existing home, we offer a full range of highly efficient ventilation solutions to help improve indoor air quality and ensure energy savings.
